Just the facts . . . About Us

Comitis Crisis Center has 40 individuals currently housed in the shelter.
At capacity the shelter can house 42 adults and 24 children, 10 youth (ages 11-17/Youth Shelter) totalling 80 residents.
Comitis has 14 emergency overnight space available
In 2011, the APD and Aurora 911 referred 378 persons to our 24-hour help line.
In 2011 to date, APD has referred 171 persons to the Comitis Crisis Center for a various of reasons, (emergency shelter, food, bus tokens, day shelter, homeless runaway youth, Victim's Assistance)
At this time we have two women who are pregnant.
We have six children under the age of 5 years old.
We provide, on average, 160 meals per day to residents and emergency shelter individuals.
We are the primary emergency shelter for Aurora Police Department and Aurora Police Department's Victim's Assistance Services (APD VAS).
We are called upon nightly by the Aurora Police Department and take in, on average, three emergency housing individuals each evening.
We are the 24/7, on-call, "safe shelter" for Victim's Assistance Services.
In house services provided during the stay, (parenting skills, case management, Job Readiness, medical care performed by MCPN, group and individual therapy for mental health and substance abuse, chronic and persistent mental health issues are referred through our Nexus funding to Aurora Mental Health).
In 2012, Comitis Crisis Center will provide shelter through the Veteran's Administration for homeless veteran women and their children.
We are the only "Safe Place" shelter in Colorado. We are listed and referred to by the National Runaway and Youth Hotline to provide safe shelter for runaway youth.
We work closely with APD's Cold Weather Alerts, set in place by APD when temperatures fall below 30 degrees during the winter season. We open our shelter to individuals in these circumstances in compliance with our agreement with APD, and keep them out of inclement weather until the Alerts are lifted. This includes day shelter services for extended Alerts. We partner and support Aurora Warms and Nights during these Alerts.
