Just the facts . . .
For more than 40 years, Comitis has provided emergency shelter to youth in America. Comitis was one of the original Basic Center Program (BCP) grantees through the US Department of Health and Human Services, and continues to receive BCP funding.
Aurora is a high poverty community with a large youth homeless population. In 2010, 16 of 17 elementary schools have a free/reduced lunch eligibility rate of 80% or higher. Within the Aurora school district, 857 students are homeless.
The FORT provides access to food, shelter, and other critical services. The FORT helps youth safely reunify with families, or helps them transition into stable permanent housing.
A partnership with the Metro Community Provider Network provides on-site access to health care services.
Therapy and counseling are incorporated into daily programming to address issues such as relationship problems with parent figures, low self-esteem, conflict and anger management, substance abuse, communication issues, lifestyle choices, self-care and advocacy, work readiness, and school problems. Every effort is made to secure cooperation and participation of parents/legal guardians in evidence-based strategies.
